As most of you who regularly follow this blog already know, I am a HUGE fan of Indian food/cooking. Only in India could someone come up with the expression that "the best dishes contain atleast 56 distinct flavors." :)

So those of you who are likewise fans of food from the Subcontinent will probably likewise be happy to discover the following site, Madhuram's Eggless Cooking, which has since been added to my blogroll under the category, "Indian" (recipes). This site has some amazing recipes, all of which happen to be vegan. However, you don't have to be a vegan to appreciate/enjoy these dishes. :)

And, while you're at it, you might be interested to check out the other wonderful Indian recipe sites listed on my blog roll, which I've decided to reprint below for your convenience.

You write..."the best dishes contain atleast 56 distinct flavors."

Interesting. I don't have much idea about indian food, or any food for that matter...I'm sure I can not identify more than 8-9 different vegetables, spices and flavours.

Combined total! :-)

I feel that tasty food is very dangerous. One would go fat if one got addicted to trying out different foods.

I was just reading your blog entries on 'nutrition tips'. Very interesting, and I have read the part on cavities before. Will be back to re-read.

Vikram

Hi Vikram,

Thanks for your comments. I heard that particular expression (about the 56 flavors) from a food writer who was featured on a TV show about Indian cooking & culture. Not sure how literal this person was being when they said it, but I do think that it speaks to the wonderful complexity of flavors & spices present in so many Indian dishes.

If you liked reading the nutrition posts on this blog, there are also more posts on this topic on my running blog. These articles can be found under the blog category/label, "Nutrition." Enjoy!

Hope you are doing well!
