0 Recipe #9: Orange Creamsicle Smoothie

When I was a child, my grandfather would walk with my sister & me to the corner store to get a creamsicle on a hot summer's day. It's a very fond memory that my sister & I share; both of my maternal & paternal grandfathers liked to take us for walks in their respective towns -- We made several trips on foot to the playground, the corner store, the duck pond, etc. I think our grandfathers also took our parents when they were young children as well, because they also have a nostalgic fondness for creamsicles, which probably also came from similar long summer walks which most likely ended up at their local corner store! 8-)

Of course, food can be a very nostalgic thing, and so, it's no surprise that I endeavored to recreate a bit of my childhood by making up my own "orange creamsicle" recipe, albeit in a much healthier form. My whole family loves this recipe; it's a real crowd-pleaser & I've gotten several repeat requests to make it while I've been here (i.e., at my parents' house). We sometimes have it for dessert, or for breakfast or a mid-day snack; & sometimes, when we're really tired & it's too late for a full meal, we've even eaten it for dinner!

Of course, there's no actual orange creamsicle in the recipe itself, but it certainly tastes like there is!

Hope you enjoy this family favorite!

Orange Creamsicle Smoothie

6 ice cubes
1 c. orange juice
2 tsp. whey protein isolate powder (plain or vanilla work best)
3/4 c. low-fat, plain soy milk
1/2 c. low-fat plain yoghurt
1/8 tsp vanilla extract

Directions: Pour all ingredients into a blender and pulse until smooth. (How easy is that!?!) Makes about 2 servings.

The great thing about smoothies is that they take less than 5 minutes to make and there's barely any clean-up to do!
